SUMMARY:"Unsettled Pieces"
DESCRIPTION:Visit the Duxbury Art Complex Museum to view\n“Unsettled Pieces”\n  \nAugust 20 – November 5\, 2023\nReception: August 20\, 2023\, 1:00 – 4:00 pm\nThree artists have chosen mosaic as the common language to explore issues affecting the planet\, each in her own style.\nDebora Aldo uses her signature material—pebbles—along with up-cycled contemporary materials\, to infuse her lines with meaning. Nikki Sullivan and Anabella Wewer both use classical andamento to form their lines\, but Nikki often uses a large found object as her focal point\, while Anabella breaks down uncommon materials into regularly sized tesserae.\nEach artist has embraced one or more topics within our changing world\, and brought to it the unusual and uncommon set of skills that it takes to create a mosaic.\n\n*Closed Mondays\, Tuesdays\, and Major Holidays – Open Wednesday through Sunday from 1pm to 4pm*

SUMMARY:September - October 2023: Duxbury Camera Club
DESCRIPTION:Duxbury Camera Club\nMinimalist Focus Group\nSimplicity\n\nArtists’ Statement\nMinimalism in photography is all about “less is more.” It is about stripping a subject down to its bare essentials and creating photos that are a celebration of austere simplicity. \nAs minimalist photographers\, we not only strive to keep our compositions clean and simple but we also honor the boundaries and rules that are common to the minimalist genre. For example\, motifs that you will often see displayed in our works include: geometric shapes\, repeating patterns\, bold lines and textures. We also apply techniques such as: intentional blurring and the use of B&W\, or Monotones\, to help with eliminating the details. \nWhen we started our Minimalist Focus Group a few years ago\, many of us were new to the genre. We initially found it to be daunting to try and maintain the right balance of drama and interest in a simple “bare-bones” photograph. If we removed too little…our image would not be considered  minimalist. However\, if we removed too much…the intent and drama of the photo would ultimately be lost. \nOver time\, we studied various minimalist artists and increased our knowledge on the subject. This helped our work to evolve. Now\, our minimalist photographs are not only simple compositions but they are well thought out photographs that convey our own personal story\, point of view\, and unique style. \nOur exhibition\, Simplicity\, is the culmination of all that we have learned over the past several years about Minimalist Photography. We hope you enjoy our exploration of these simple subjects and can share in our delight at finding their true essence. \n  \n           \nExhbiting Artists:\n\n\nBarbara Canney\, Cohasset \nJudy Laliberte\, Duxbury \nJudith Montminy\, Duxbury \n\n\nCamille Neville\, Duxbury \nRandy Otto\, Hingham \nGlenn Pollock\, Marshfield \n\n\nJudy Pollock\, Marshfield \nRain Rodolph\, Marshfield \nMyrna Walsh\, Duxbury \n\n\n

SUMMARY:"Searching for the Light" by Erin Donnellan Kroninger
DESCRIPTION:The Art of Erin Donnellan Kroninger: Searching for the Light\nOn Display from October 7 – November 3 \nPlease join the artist for a reception on October 14th from 2:30 – 4:00 \nAbout the Artist:\nI find my inspiration in nature – the infinite range of colors\, lines\, shapes and atmosphere. As I study a scene\, my attention is always drawn to light and its effects. I strive to capture the luminosity in a variety of ways. As I paint\, I build the surface of my work by applying multiple layers of oil paint (and sometimes cold wax)\, retaining previous marks and colors\, while leaving trace results of others\, or obscuring them altogether. My approach strives to create a depth and history which results in a complex and nuanced surface of color\, harmony and balance. \nThis Event is made possible by the North River Arts Society

SUMMARY:Caryl Hull Leavitt Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:In Person or Online\nMaking sense of the world around me – in shape\, pattern and color.\n\nHull-Leavitt’s talk and demonstration\, offered in partnership with the Art Wellesley\, will focus on her recent work\, some of which is on display at the Tolles Parsons Center starting September 28. Her energetic tablescape paintings – The Dinner Party series – celebrate joy and abundance with dynamic color and familiarly festive shapes. Hull-Leavitt is a painter working from observation and intuition\, interpreting her experiences through patterns\, shapes and color. She sees dynamic compositions in fleeting moments and responds to them with loose brush strokes and gestural marks\, favoring expression over exact likeness. “Painting is my way of being very present in the world. My art comes from observing what’s around me\, an emotional response to what I see and an exploration of materials that leads to its own kind of discovery and storytelling\,” reflects Hull-Leavitt.\nArt has been a consistent force throughout her life. Raised in NY\, going to museums and art fairs was a usual family outing. After graduating from Hampshire College with a BFA\, she spent her career as a founder and creative director of a design firm specializing in biotech while raising her now grown family. She paints full time and shows throughout NY and New England.\n\nRegistration is required\, Click Here to register
