SUMMARY:Jan Lhormer: Earth and Sky

SUMMARY:Summer Social : Savage Godfrey Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Savage Godfrey Gallery presents\nA Summer Social: \nKarla Hunter\, Lisa Daria Kennedy\, Amy Ross\nJune 12th – September 18th\, 2026\nOpening Reception: Friday\, June 12\, 6–8 P\n\n\n\nGallery/Exhibition info:\nThe beauty of the golden hour\, the infamous characters in a seasonal town\, flirting with a new crush… A Summer Social evokes the nostalgia of endless summer days through paintings by Karla Hunter and Lisa Daria Kennedy\, and collages by Amy Ross. The opening reception will be on Friday\, June 12\, from 6-8 pm. All three of the artists will be in attendance\, so you can swap your own summer stories with them over a glass of wine! Cue the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. \nMaking a name for herself in the South Shore art community and beyond\, Karla Hunter paints scenes of everyday life and\, in this exhibition\, the good life. Her paintings celebrate small moments that we treasure for a lifetime. Gilded paintings of Summer tablescapes and cocktails will grace the gallery walls\, along with a few of her signature coastal scenes. These cheeky compositions often spill out onto their charming\, upcycled frames. Karla lives in Cohasset\, MA\, and is continually inspired by her life there. Her studio is at the Wright Building in Rockland\, MA. \nYet There We Are is a study of leisure\, mined from still frames of found 8mm home movies. These narrative paintings by Lisa Daria Kennedy are anchored in two moments: the instant something is compelling enough to film\, and the instant that moment ends and the camera is set down. Her source material comprises 800 ft of film that spans a seemingly endless survey of one family’s favorite moments. Lisa teaches at Massachusetts College of Art. She lives in Higham\, MA\, where she paints in her studio overlooking World’s End. \nThis is the second exhibition of Amy Ross’ collages at the Savage Godfrey Gallery. Ross combines unexpected elements to create fantastical hybrid creatures using traditional cut-and- paste techniques. The sea is especially suited to surrealist collage. From sirens to the Kraken\, people have imagined deep-sea creatures as mysterious and otherworldly. Ross arranges her creatures as though they’re participating in a choreographed dance. The compositions possess a delightful retro whimsy and subtle humor akin to Alice in Wonderland. Ross’ collages have been reproduced in Vogue\, Target’s “Artist in Residence” home collection\, and on multiple book and cookbook covers. Amy Ross lives and works in Watertown\, MA. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Interpreting the Natural: Contemporary Visions of Scholars’ Rocks
DESCRIPTION:The Duxbury Art Center present \nInterpreting the Natural:\nContemporary Visions of Scholars’ Rocks\nSeptember 20\, 2026 – January 17\, 2027\nReception: Sunday\, September 20\, 2026\, 1:00 – 4:00 pm \n\nGuest Curator\, Donna Dodson\, brings together ten artists whose\npractices engage with the ancient Chinese tradition of appreciating\nnaturally occurring stones as vessels of contemplation\, metaphor\, and\nimaginative space. The exhibition explores how today’s artists\nreinterpret the spirit of scholars’ rocks through a range of materials\,\nscales\, and conceptual approaches. \nRather than replicating historical forms\, the featured works consider how nature is shaped; physically\, culturally\, and spiritually. Some artists emphasize geological presence and raw materiality\, while others evoke symbolic landscapes\, cosmology\, or interior states. Together\, these contemporary responses extend a centuries-old dialogue between art and nature\, inviting\nviewers to slow down and recognize the power of the organic world to\nprompt reflection and wonder. This exhibition offers a fresh perspective on an enduring artistic lineage\, bridging tradition and innovation. \nParticipating artists\nChristopher Frost\, Kate Gilbert\, Danielle Krcmar\,\nLisa Tang Liu\, Kathy Della Lucia\, Andy Moerlein\, Wen-hao Tien\, Alice\nWu\, Yu-Wev Wu\, Qhanzhou (Jack) Zhao \n\n
