SUMMARY:Call for Art - Midsommer Art Festival Poster Competition 2026
DESCRIPTION:Call for Artists!\n\nDeadline: March 15\, 2026 \nWe are inviting artists to enter a competition to design the poster for our second annual Midsommar Arts Festival\, to be held in June\, 2026. \nLast year’s festival featured entertainment\, art activities\, vendors\, food\, and maypole dancing\, and we are planning another family-friendly afternoon for this year’s event. \n\n\n\n\nThis year\, the Art Complex Museum invites artists to enter a competition to design the poster for our Second Annual Midsommar Arts Festival. We’re looking for original\, two-dimensional artwork that reflects the spirit of Midsommar and the summer solstice. No text is needed\, just visual art that celebrates these themes. The first-place winner\, chosen by museum staff\, will have their artwork featured on the 2026 festival poster and promotional materials. A selected group of artists will be invited to exhibit their posters at the Alden Studio Gallery. \n\n\n\n\nClick Here for Art Prospectus

SUMMARY:Waterways-Lashed & Untethered
DESCRIPTION:Mo Kelman: Waterways-Lashed & Untethered\nat the Duxbury Art Complex Museum \nFebruary 15 – May 10\, 2026 \nRooted in childhood memories of Cleveland’s industrial landscape and the burning Cuyahoga River of 1969\, Mo Kelman’s sculptures merge water’s shifting forms with the stark geometry of steel and bridges. \nUsing simple\, tactile materials\, she explores the tension between nature’s unstoppable force and human engineering. These works celebrate craft\, resilience\, and transformation\, revealing both the beauty of construction and the inevitability of nature’s power.

SUMMARY:Reflections and Light
DESCRIPTION:North River Arts presents\nReflections and Light\nJoin us in celebration of Andrew Flight with “Reflections and Light” at the Jeanne Horan Gallery at Ventress Memorial Library\, February 28 – April 18. Opening Reception on Friday\, March 6 from 5:30-7:30pm – We hope to see you there! \n  \nArtist Statement:\n \n“The relationship between light and shadow has always been an important part of my painting. Capturing the shape of a shadow or the subtle change in a tone can bring an image to life. Negative space and the changes created by light are what form the composition. Reflections are another aspect of this relationship and can be found throughout nature and in everyday objects. My eye has always been drawn to the distorted or nearly mirror-like effect of the optical illusions. “ \n

SUMMARY:Local Strokes
DESCRIPTION:Diane Tremitiere Monaghan\nLocal Strokes\nWhat a little sandpaper and chalk can do\n \nArtist’s Statement\nWhen my family and I moved to Duxbury Massachusetts from Chicago\, I was stunned by the beauty that abounds here. I would like to inspire local residents to marvel at the colors all around them that they might take for granted\, whether it be an old mailbox\, shadows on the beach\, or a cranberry harvest in progress. My chosen medium is soft pastel on 400 grit sanded paper although I’ve worked in watercolor and acrylic. \nIt has been a particular joy to see my daughter Caitlin using her artistic talents in many ways – she chooses a subject and figures out how to turn it into a creative and beautiful gift for someone. Her results are amazing! \n

SUMMARY:Now is Then
DESCRIPTION:North River Arts presents\nNow is Then\nJoin us in celebration of Now Is Then by Sage Belber\, on display March 7 – April 2 at the Dolphin Gallery\, located in the Hingham Library. Opening Reception: Thursday\, March 12th\, 5:30-7:00 pm \n  \nArtist Statement:  \nNow becomes then\, moments become memories\, but in the moment: the weight of emotions\, the dynamics of our relationships to others\, and the places we inhabit hold such solidity\, it’s hard to realize we are forever falling into the past and slipping into the future. \nAs these moments pass by\, I catch the now with meditation and focus\, my interpretation solidifies in oil paint on canvas\, and is delivered to future viewers: a moment in time and its timelessness.

SUMMARY:What Remains Unsaid
DESCRIPTION:The James Library Presents\nA Solo Exhibition:\n“What Remains Unsaid”\nA collection of figurative drawings by Robert Brodesky\n\nOpening Reception on Friday\, March 13 from 6-8 PM\nExibition: March 13 – April 25\, 2026\n    Enjoy the latest paintings by Robert Brodesky in a solo exhibition in the Concert Hall. Featuring a collection of large figurative paintings by the artist. \nRobert P. “Bob” Brodesky\, an artist based in the Boston-area\, has been painting all his life. He specializes in figurative painting in an expressionistic style\, rendered in oils\, paint stick or pastels on canvas\, paper\, and wood. He likes working big––a surface big enough to allow him to be expansive\, and physical. \nBrodesky’s work features human figures captured in a particular instant\, a pivotal moment when something changes. The viewer is invited to participate\, enter the moment\, and offer his or her own take on the situation and where it might lead. His style––expressive and gestural––focuses on the dynamics of human relationships\, and is drawn from his own personal experience.

SUMMARY:Heather Kinney at Clemens Gallery
DESCRIPTION:The Art of Heather Kinney: Happy Spring\nOn Display from April 4 through April 30\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Artist\nI am a visual artist\, lover of color\, and a painter. I create art to share my experience of the world around me and because it brings me joy. My paintings\, like me\, tend to be vibrant\, happy\, and engaging. I find abstraction to be a great space to express emotions and to connect with others. \nExperiencing art with others strengthens our connections\, helping to create a vibe of understanding\, respect and inclusion\, the world I want to live in. \nhttp://www.localartmatters.com/

SUMMARY:"Holding Ground" at the Savage Godfrey Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Holding Ground: Nancy Cloonan\, Deborah Howard\, Ilana Manolson\nApril 10th – June 7th\, 2026\n  \n\n\n\n\n     This April\, Savage Godfrey Gallery presents Holding Ground\, a three-artist exhibition exploring the relationship between landscape\, memory\, and place through the distinct practices of Nancy Cloonan\, Deborah Howard\, and Ilana Manolson.Together\, their work reflects a shared commitment to observing and honoring the environments that shape both their practice and perspective. \nNancy Cloonan’s paintings translate the overlooked details of daily life into layered\, abstract compositions that feel both familiar and elusive. Reason being\, she pulls shape and pattern from photographs taken during daily walks throughout Plymouth County. Picket fences\, asphalt patches\, and reflective puddles are translated into colorful forms\, combined and layered into Cloonan’s wonderfully inviting abstractions. Nancy Cloonan lives and paints in Plymouth\, MA. \nThrough a process of painting\, wiping\, and sanding\, Howard builds quiet\, layered landscapes that reflect the shifting light and atmosphere of Cape Cod’s marshes and tidal flats. Her restrained compositions reveal depth through subtle mark-making\, where traces of underpainting and gesture remain visible beneath the surface. Deborah Howard lives and paints in Barnstable\, MA. \nWhen Ilana Manolson stands before a plant to paint it\, she brings with her a rare double vision — that of the artist and the botanist. This layered perspective infuses her paintings with both visual poetry and scientific attentiveness\, revealing the quiet complexity of the natural world. Manolson’s work is rooted in the cyclical rhythms of the wetlands that surround her home in Concord\, MA. Her compositions center on native plant life\, tracing moments of growth and transition with a sensitivity to the larger systems these plants inhabit. \nThe opening reception of Holding Ground will be on Friday\, May 8th from 6-8 pm\, Nancy Cloonan\, Deborah Howard and Ilana Manolson will be in attendance. Our reception will coincide with the neighboring James Library Art Gallery’s reception for Scott Ketchum: The Wild Iris. \n\n\n\nAfternoon with the Artist: \nNancy Cloonan – Friday\, April 17\, 1–4 PM \nDeborah Howard – Friday\, May 29\, 1–4 PM
