DESCRIPTION:North River Arts Society is proud to present “Jack Haran and His Students\,” at the Horan Gallery at Ventress Memorial Library in Marshfield. Please join us on Friday\, January 12\, 5:30-7:30PM for the Opening Reception. \n  \nGenevieve Davis worked for 50 years in the financial management of nonprofit corporations.  Now retired from that\, she is starting her second career as an artist\, the discipline she was originally trained in.” \n  \nSkip DeBrusk is an ardent fisherman who spends far too much time chasing cod\, tuna\, stripers and sharks on Stellwagen Bank\, consequently his paintings reflect a lifelong interest in marine and nautical painting.  He is fortunate to have had many great teachers including Joanne Papandrea\, Nancy Howell and Jack Haran.  Many of his paintings lean towards the oriental and reflect a large expanse of white paper allowing the viewer to actively participate by filling in their own sense of mystery.   \n  \nClaire Gagnon \nClaire Gagnon is an acrylic painter with an impressionistic/realistic style.  Since 2018\, Claire has been teaching at Chez Claire Art School in Lowell\, MA.  Dynamic and award-winning\, she has more than 25 years’ experience painting with acrylics.  She started painting in 1996 in Montreal\, Quebec.  Studying for four years with Micheline Raymond\, an award winning artist\, and founder of the Creative Art Gallery and School in Montreal. Www.chezclaireartschool.com \n  \nPaul A. Goes Born in Providence\, RI. A graduate of the Vesper George School of Art\, Boston\, MA. where he studied Art\, Design & Illustration. Paul worked for a variety of Design ­rms in and around the Providence\, RI area as a Designer/Illustrator and Creative Director\, later working in house designing toys at Hasbro. For the next 20 years Paul worked as an independent design contractor @ Gostudio. After moving to Hull\, Massachusetts in 2011 Paul spends his free time creating\, sketching and painting watercolors at his home studio in Hull\, MA. You can see more of Paul’s art works on Instagram: @highlandarts \n  \nJack Haran is the past president of the New England Watercolor Society (NEWS) and past President of North River Arts Society (NRAS).  He earned a BS in Fine Arts from Northeastern University and a School of the Museum of Fine Arts Diploma.  He has studied with Tony Van Hasselt and Judi Wagner\, Zygmond Jankowski\, John Kilroy\, Alvaro Castagnet and Joseph Zbukvic. \n  \nScott Ketcham is a prolific and evolving painter with over 30 years experience. He is a Professor of Visual Arts at Massasoit Community College. He hold a BA from Williams College and an MFA from Johnson State College\, and has been a pupil of William Schultz\, Robert Brackman\, Clement Micarrelli\, Andrew McMillan\, Jack Haran\, and Douglas Kornfeld. He paints out of his studio in Rockland Mass and holds many workshops and seminars on painting the figure. Fine Arts studies continued at Northeastern University where she received a degree in Fine Arts. Her career took her away from the arts but she has resumed her art work in retirement.  She feels fortunate to have had instruction with Donald Dacier\, Marian Carlson\, Jack Haran and Steve Sheffield.

DESCRIPTION:On Display now through the month of December at the Helen Bump Gallery at the Duxbury Free Library.  Please stop in to view during the Library’s normal business hours \n\nArtist’s Statement\nGail Nathanson is a professional oil painter who paints both on location\, as well as in her studio. \n“What interests me the most\, as a visual artist\, is to tell a story of the familiar.  I am moved to paint images of the ordinary and unexceptional.  Glimpses into the unremarkable corners of life are what inspire me.  When I paint\, I act as a storyteller\, often leaving viewers with the task of filling in the blanks or finishing the story for themselves.   I don’t want to give away too much detail\, but enough to get the viewer started.  One of the greatest influences on my work is the American painter\, Edward Hopper. I look for high contrast on my subject matter and render the images in such a way that the viewer can place the light source by reading the shadows and the play of light.” \n \nArtist’s Bio\nArtist Gail Nathanson has been juried into many local and national exhibits\, including most recently\, The Philadelphia Sketch Club’s prestigious juried national “Small Oils Works” and over the years various national figure exhibitions\, juried by Robert Liberace\, Joanna Harmon and Juan Jr. Ramirez\, among others.   She has received many awards for her figurative work\, as well as for her beachscapes and cityscapes.  She is a member of various art guilds and societies and has shown in a number galleries.  Gail has her own studio and gallery in Hingham\, Massachusetts and can be contacted through her website: www.gailnathansonpaintings.com

DESCRIPTION:Growing up on the island of Jamaica\, Massachusetts painter Andrae Green says that the Caribbean Sea never played a huge part in his conscious life\, but he was always aware of its presence. He knew\, unconsciously\, that he could go to it whenever he wanted and that it would always be there for him. He remembers his father bringing his family to Kingston Harbor and watching the young boys jump off the docks\, into the abyss. Their fearless trust in the sea always fascinated him. Their leaps of faith inspired him. \nSince moving to western Massachusetts and no longer having easy access to the sea\, Green feels a longing that has translated into his most recent body of work: paintings that speak to the limitless potential for human imagination and freedom (a perspective that is very needed in these times) and drawings about weightlessness and freedom\, all inspired by bodies of water and the Caribbean landscape. SUMMARY:The Art of the Automobile
DESCRIPTION:The Art of the Automobile\nPhotography by Steven Edson\nOn Display from November 4 – November 30 \nArtist Statement:\nAs a photographer\, I attempt to visually describe moments in transition while observing the complexity and vastness of the land\, people\, and objects within constantly changing conditions. For these brief moments\, time stands still for eternity. \nForm and function welded\, bolted\, and stitched together for speed\, comfort\, performance\, and safety. All vintages are represented in my work starting from 1885 to the Model T to antique cars from the turn of the century to the vintage era of the 1920’s thru to the mid-century cars of the 1930’s to the 1950’s to hot rods and muscle cars to the current late model cars including performance luxury vehicles and race cars. My car photography illustrates the exquisite precision of bent metal and chrome to conform to a designer’s vision for the efficiencies of aerodynamics combined with the beauty of timeless style. Within this series\, I use the camera to highlight and celebrate the industrial nature of car design both in its abstraction and the transformation cars undergo in different lighting and environmental atmospheric conditions. \nCars are a catalyst for many people’s earliest memories: from romantic dinner dates or to the store and day trips across the region or cross-country adventures. Vehicles are used for pleasure and for commercial entities and for some\, the sheer thrill and enjoyment combined with the skills of racing to be the first to cross the finish line in the shortest amount of time.

See more information below. \n  \nFor Shoppers \nJoin us for Holiday fun and festivities! Music\, bar\, snacks and more will be available at the Preview Party on Friday\, November 3\, 6-8pm. The Preview Party is a fundraiser as well as an opportunity for shoppers who want to get first dibs on artwork! Shoppers are also welcome back Saturday\, November 4\, 10am-3pm\, and Sunday November 5\, 10am-2pm\, free admission. \n  \nFor Artists \n\nThe art sale is open to members and nonmembers. Artists may submit up to 25 pieces of work of any medium – oil\, watercolor\, acrylics\, photography\, etc. – framed or unframed. Please note: works previously submitted to any NRAS art sale are not eligible for entry. Prints or giclees are allowed but must be clearly marked as such. \nWorks must be priced within the range of $35.00-$399.00. Please keep your prices reasonable to encourage sales. Each artist may also submit one piece to the “Gallery on Stage\,” which is devoted exclusively to higher priced paintings over $400.00. In an effort to promote sales of stage pieces\, these works will be offered at 10% discount during the Preview Party event only – discount to be shared by NRAS and the artist. All work must be submitted using the enclosed form. \nThe fee for artist participation in the sale is $30.00 – includes entry for (1) person at the Preview Party. In addition\, for each piece sold\, the split will be 70% to NRAS member artists and 30% to NRAS. Non-member artists split will be 50/50. You may become a member online or in person during drop off. Checks will be mailed to artists for total work sold as soon as possible after the sale. \nArtists – Please help us present a professional appearance at this sale. Please bring your work in appropriate crates or bins (no cardboard boxes\, laundry baskets\, etc.) Presentation is important for sales! Also\, to protect your work and frames\, please include separators (cardboard\, foam core\, etc.) between each piece in your crate. \nIMPORTANT! Please affix a label to the back of each piece of work listing your name\, title (if applicable)\, medium\, price\, email and item number (pieces should be listed 1-25). DESCRIPTION:Young @ Art 2023\n\n\n\n\nPlymouth Center for the Arts invites artists\, ages 6 – 18\, to submit their original artwork\, in any medium\, into our annual youth art competition and exhibit. This year’s exhibit will hang in the gallery for 5 weeks\, which will provide more opportunity for family and friends to visit our gallery and enjoy the exhibit. \nThis is an open themed show. Plymouth Center for the Arts membership is not required. \nAwards:\nBest in Show\n1st\, 2nd and 3rd place awards in the following age divisions: 6-10\, 11-13 and 14-18. \nArtists must be 6-18 years of age at the time of the exhibit. Artwork must have been completed within the last 12 months and cannot have been submitted in a previous Young @ Art exhibit. \nArtists are allowed up to two entries at a cost of $5 per entry. \nPre-registration can be completed online\, via our website\, or in person during the drop off. Online registration is encouraged to reduce wait time during the drop off periods \n\n\n\nImportant Dates and Information:\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease review prospectus for all exhibit details including artwork display specifics. \nREGISTRATION – \nPre-register online via our website from September 27 – Oct 18. \nArtists are allowed up to two entries for $5 per entry. \nYou may also register in person\, during drop off.
