Brightening Lives One Sign at a Time
In Episode 22 of the Frame Center Podcast, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Jenny, the creative force behind Citrus Daisy. Known for her cheerful hand-painted signs, cards, and other artistic creations, Jenny shared her inspiring journey from a math-minded merchandising director to a full-time artist and small business owner. Her brand, Citrus Daisy, embodies positivity and warmth, much like Jenny herself.
The Origin of Citrus Daisy
Founded in 2010, Citrus Daisy began with a simple idea: to brighten people’s days. After losing her corporate job and welcoming her first child, Jenny started painting signs for her neighbors. A friend encouraged her to turn her hobby into a business, and the rest is history. The name Citrus Daisy reflects her love for vibrant citrus colors and daisies, representing happiness and simplicity. It’s a sentiment woven into every piece of her art.
A Barn Full of Magic
Operating out of an 1832 barn in Norwell, Massachusetts, Jenny’s studio is more than just a workspace; it’s a hub of creativity and connection. Over the years, the barn has become a gathering place for heartfelt conversations with visitors, who often leave with more than just a sign. “It’s a magical place,” Jenny says. “The energy, the conversations, and even the friendly ‘ghost’ make it special.”
Overcoming Imposter Syndrome
Jenny’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. For years, she struggled with imposter syndrome, questioning whether she deserved to call herself an artist. It wasn’t until she started participating in farmers’ markets two years ago that she began embracing her role as an artist. “People’s support helped me silence that negative inner voice,” she shared. “Now, I’m confident in my work and ready to expand my reach.”
Brightening Days Through Art
Citrus Daisy’s mission is simple: to spread joy. Jenny’s hand-painted signs, greeting cards, and stickers are filled with uplifting messages that resonate with people on a personal level. Her work is rooted in her belief that even small gestures—a kind word or a cheerful sign—can transform someone’s day. “My goal is to brighten lives, one sign at a time,” she explained.
Venturing Into Wholesale
In addition to her custom work and farmers’ market appearances, Jenny has recently ventured into wholesale. Her greeting cards, launched just over a year ago, are now featured in several stores. She dreams of having her products in at least one store in every state, sharing her message of positivity across the country.
Looking Ahead
Jenny is brimming with ideas for the future, from collaborating on wrapping paper designs to exploring more intricate fine art pieces. She’s excited to collaborate with others in the community, including potential projects with Frame Center, like custom stickers or painted frames.
