SUMMARY:Artist Reception "Here Comes the Sun"
DESCRIPTION:Artist Reception for \nHere Comes The Sun: \nRita S. Berkowitz \n  \nSATURDAY\, SEPTEMBER 6 1:00 – 3:00 PM \nMeeting Room at the Norwell Public Library\n 64 South Street\, Norwell\, MA 02061\n\n\nArtist Statement: \nEvery morning as the sun rises we are promised a new beginning. A time to rethink who we are and what we would like to achieve in our lives. It represents the Cycle of Life\, like a daily reincarnation. Ancient people thought of the sun as the source of life. The Mayan people thought the sunrise brings warmth into consciousness. \nBlessed with images of Scituate\, Massachusetts\, on the marsh\, to see the most beautiful sunrises to welcome in the day. No matter the weather\, the sunrise gives us a feeling that it is all okay and we can go forward to be who we truly want to be. \nThe poem\, “Paint Me a Sunrise\,” by Linda Harrison\, read at many memorial services\, from that moment forward Rita Berkowitz has been embracing the sunrise not only as a memorial but as a meditation to begin every day. We begin with the thoughts “How we can reinvent ourselves\, to become the people we really want t to be\, to decide who we are today and from this point forward.

SUMMARY:Keith Conforti - Norwell Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Come meet artist Keith Conforti to hear about his art and process and view his current exhibit at NPL which explores neglected and abandoned worlds\, allowing him to create stories about the contradiction of beauty and decay. Keith’s photos will be on display in the meeting room from September through October. \n  \nKeith Conforti works professionally as a photographer\, graphic designer and college professor. He teaches classes and workshops on both disciplines. \n  \nHis visual style relies heavily on composition\, honed by his years as a graphic designer\, to create order out of nature’s chaos. His photos possess a silent dignity and structure that presents his subjects simply and honestly. \n  \nToday\, Keith photographs all across the country. His interest is discovering abandoned and shuttered locations that have historic pasts with meaningful stories and captivating beauty (usually created by decades of neglect and decay). He has photographed asylums\, prisons\, theaters\, shipyards\, hospitals\, schools\, mill complexes\, and just about any other location that offers a glimpse into a forgotten past. Each place has a story to share about its former purpose and how time\, nature and neglect have conspired to transform it. \n

SUMMARY:Meet the Artist: Robyn Thompson-Duong
DESCRIPTION:Robyn Thompson-Duong meet the Artist\nSATURDAY\, SEPTEMBER 9th 2:00—3:00 PM \nMeeting Room Norwell Public Library\n64 South Street\, Norwell\, MA\, 02061\nMagical realism\, beauty and love of color\, Robyn Thompson Duong’s work evokes pride in black culture and the spirit of femininity. Drawing inspiration from art history\, Robyn’s work deals with challenging the societal perceptions and stereotypes of Black femininity and beauty by depicting women of color as Mother Goddess\, grand\, graceful\, and beautiful. Thompson Duong’s work seeks to reappropriate the Black female image and what it means to be a woman of color. \nPrimarily a figurative artist\, Robyn Thompson Duong works in acrylics and graphite. As a black woman raised in the suburbs of Boston and often being the only person of color growing up\, Thompson Duong knows the importance of representation and seeing one’s self in the images and people around you\, hence her work depicting women of color as the main subjects of her paintings. Thompson Duong Studied visual art at Syracuse University earning a BFA in 2002. She later went on to earn an MEd from Lesley University. Combining her passion for art with her love of teaching\, Thompson Duong has been an art teacher in both private and public institutions. Robyn Thompson Duong was named the Museum of Fine Arts Emerging Artist Fellow for 2020. \nRobyn Thompson Duong sells original artworks\, prints on paper and canvas\, and takes commissions throughout the year. She also offers private and small group art lessons and experiences. \n \n  \nPlease Register by Clicking Here to attend the event \n
