John Cook: Another Lifetime Fine Art

On Display from August 10 – September 5

Join the artist for a reception in the Gallery on Thursday, August 15 from 6:30-8:30.

This exhibition focuses on the various style and composition changes that the artist, John Cook has encountered since learning to paint in early 2017. His style of painting is reminiscent of a combination of the romantic period and the realism period styles. Both styles are late 19th century genres, that captured subjects and nature in their natural settings as they actually appear. Most of his works are created using oils on canvas, however, an occasional piece composed in acrylics comes along.

Although Mr. Cook does make attempts to capture different subject matter, most of his works are studies of the sea as the sea is where his heart finds solace. It is a constantly changing element, capable of showing darkened merciless rage in one moment and in the next, calm seas displaying beautiful hues of emerald and turquoise. His desire is that you find enjoyment in these pieces and perhaps they would draw you in, giving you a glimpse of how he views our world.

About the Artist:

John L. Cook (b. 1957 Ammersee, Germany) received his Associate Degree in Fine Arts Visual Arts from Quincy College, Quincy, Massachusetts in May 2018. He received his Bachelor of Art Degree from the University of Massachusetts Boston, in May 2020 with concentrations in studio art, painting and drawing.

Mr. Cook retired from the United States Army in July 2016 after 28 years of service where he served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. Upon retiring, while studying at Quincy College, he realized a talent for creating art through painting and drawing. He has since displayed his works at the Hull Art Association Gallery in Hull, Massachusetts. Realizing that displaying and selling his works was not enough, he has created a customer based in- home paint party business. He brings paint nights to the customer where they and small groups of their friends and associates can experience hands-on painting as he shares the gift of art with those who might not have ever been exposed to creating art. John typically creates art 2 – 7 hours a day.

His latest venture is that of a live wedding painter on the south shore of Massachusetts, capturing couple’s special moments on their wedding day as they happen, on canvas using both oil and acrylic paints.

Mr. Cook a member of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts.
