Art gives me the power to communicate in ways that words fail.

3D paintings on Plexiglas

Painting on clear panels has its own set of rules. I developed my own practice of painting on layers of acrylic using translucent pigments, allowing light to filter through the panels. The work is highly detailed, multi-dimensional paintings of nature. My work reflects nature’s power, fragility, and resilience, capturing moments and suspending them under glass. I focus on landscapes- especially water, exploring their physical properties and emotional responses to natural settings, such as nostalgia, peace, and awe. My hope is to deepen our connection with the natural world in the appreciation of its beauty, respect for its destructive abilities, and in acts of stewardship or rehabilitation.

I build 3D paintings of natural worlds in plexiglass.

What’s the story behind your work?

I started painting layered pieces over 20 years ago hoping to better convey a moment in time. I wanted the piece to have physical atmosphere. I utilized my background in design to come up with a different way of painting.

What do you hope people will feel when they see it?

My hope is they will feel whatever that place brings to them. What I love is each reaction and what appeals to each person is unique.

How does your work create community or bring people together?

Appreciating the beauty and power of nature is something we can all find common ground in. I hope to inspire others to be more conscious of that connection.

Who helped you along the way?

So many people, from my grandmother as a kid, to my two high school teachers, various collaborators and art professionals, and especially my husband and girls.

How do you give back/support others?

I love connecting people and helping them find what they need in each other. I did a 3 year artist in residency where I taught about 4000 elementary kids about my work and my dyslexia. I also teach beginner painting courses as way of encouraging others to experiment and try painting however they are comfortable. My own practice is self taught so my work is much about designing my own rules and I try to encourage that self discovery in others be it kids or adults.
