Nancy Colella

Art Gives me the power to see the magic in everyday life—and to challenge myself to recreate it.

Painting, Collage

I'm currently experimenting with creating simple, quick collages of subjects I want to paint. The goal is to force myself to break everything down into large, flat shapes.

Blue Barn

I make oil paintings and some collages

What’s the story behind your work?

Most of my paintings begin with a specific moment in time that has caught my attention, usually when light hits a subject in an unusual way. I then try to express it a bit abstractly, experimenting with line, value, color, shape and texture.

What do you hope people will feel when they see it?

I hope people take a moment to stop and reflect on the expression of those magical moments.

How does your work connect to community or bring people together?

Teaching classes and sharing my work allows me to connect with and bring together people in the community in a truly rewarding way.

Who helped you along the way?

My mom was a successful “house portrait” painter and was always making something. She encouraged me to explore everything creative. And, of course, I’ve had many incredibly inspiring instructors I could mention, but I won’t list them all!

How do you give back/support others?

I teach classes at local memory care facilities and buy local art whenever I can!
